Crochet Coat Hanger Cover – Free Crochet Pattern
The Crochet Coat Hanger Covers are so pretty and elegant. These covers will brighten up your closet and are a great stash buster, don’t take a lot of yarn, plus they’re quick to make. Easy to embellish these crochet hangers with beads, ribbon, and edgings, and you’ll want to make multiple hanger covers in all your favorite colors.

Add a pretty crochet Alpine Stitch cover to your wooden hangers. Add a bow, ribbon or beads to dress it up, but it’s just as nice if you leave it plain.

Supplies:
Yarn: Bernat Softee Baby Cotton, Color is Cotton, #3 Light weight, 60% cotton, 40% acrylic
Hook: US E/4 – 3.50 mm
Wooden hanger – 16″ long x 1/4″ thick
Yarn needle
Abbreviations: US terms
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
Special Stitches:
Alpine Stitch – watch video tutorial HERE. Combines dc and fpdc sts.
General Notes:
- Worked side to side.
- Ch 2 counts as 1 dc st.
- Ch 1 does not count as a sc st.
Instructions:
Ch 10
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch across. (9 sc).
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as 1 dc throughout), turn, 1 dc in each st across. (9 dc).
Row 3: Ch 1 (does not count as st throughout), turn, 1 sc in each st across. (9 sc).
Row 4: Ch 2, turn, *1 fpdc in next st 2 Rows below, 1 dc in next st of current Row*, repeat *-* across, 1 dc in last st. (5 dc, 4 fpdc).
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Row 6: Ch 2, turn, *1 dc in next st of current Row, 1 fpdc in next st 2 Rows below*, repeat *-* across, 1 dc in last st. (6 dc, 3 fpdc).
Row 7-67: Repeat Rows 3-6, ending on a Row 3. Turn, sl st in next 5 sts. Do not end off, continue to Assembly.
Assembly
Notes:
- Fold panel in half with RS facing out.
- Line up the stitches so they match up.
- Sc together working first along the side, then across the top edge, then along the other side, going through both edges of the panel.
Work in row ends of both panel edges.
Row 68: Sc in next 4 sts on side, place 3 sc sts in corner, *skip dc row, 3 sc in next sc row end*, repeat *-* to center of hanger, insert wooden hanger, sl st around base, repeat *-* to other corner, 3 sc in corner, 1 sc in next 4 sts on other side. (4 sc, 16 sets of 3-sc, 1 sl st, 16 sets of 3-sc, 4 sc).
End off yarn, weave in ends.
Embellish
Ch 40, tie in a bow around center of hanger.
There are lots of options to finish off your hanger. You could add a piece of ribbon around the center of the hanger, add beads that hang down from the center, add a silk flower, or whatever you want to do. Leaving it plain is a nice option too.
