Hello there!

Welcome to the Purple Poncho, Crochet by Carolyn. I’m so happy you’re here and thank you for your interest in my designs. If you like crochet, flowers, the beach and yarn, you’re in the right place.

I’ve been crafting my entire life and can’t imagine not having a project in my hands at all times. I’m very busy with my family, husband and two kids, as well as my crochet. I started this journey to have something to do when my kids left home. Well, that time is here, and I’m so glad I have my crochet to fill my days and hands.

My Grandma Mary taught me how to crochet when I was very young. I grew up learning lots of crafts, such as macramé, knitting, beading, weaving, embroidery, sewing and of course, crocheting. She made me this “purple poncho” shown here, and that is what sparked my interest in crochet.

I began by making crochet items and selling them at boutiques. That was great fun, but then I ventured into pattern designing.

Crochet Education

I’ve earned my CGOA Master of Advanced Stitches & Techniques and learned the Crochet Industry Standards. I’m working on my PHD (projects half done) now, lol.

I attended a private event to learn from the industry leaders, and taught by the famous Jenny King! What an honor to be there and surrounded by supportive friends.

Professional Designer

My favorite things to design are granny squares, blankets, garments, accessories, home décor, and holiday items. I enjoy making everything.

Flowers are also a passion of mine. I’ve incorporated them with my patterns and tutorials to showcase my style.

Inspiration

Inspiration comes from numerous places such as nature, the yarn, and geometric shapes to name a few.

When you love what you do, “work” is fun!

Teacher

I have been teaching crochet classes at a local yarn shop. That has been so fun sharing my love of crochet and meeting new friends.

I’ve also held a series of online crochet and Tunisian crochet classes for Michael’s Stores.

Pattern Shops

My patterns can be found in my Ravelry shop, on LoveCrafts, YouTube, and in numerous magazines and yarn websites.

My first independent pattern is on Ravelry dating back to 2013.
