This washcloth is made in the crochet feather stitch and looks great in a solid or variegated yarns. It is really simple to make once you get the hang of it and is a reversible fabric, perfect for scarves and blankets too.
A small washcloth or dishcloth is a wonderful project to learn a new crochet stitch. This crochet stitch resembles little feathers and is fun to make by mainly pulling up loops with yarn overs. The trick is keeping the tension even, but the result is so nice.

FEATHER STITCH WASH CLOTH
The yarn is Lily Sugarโn Cream in the color Kelp for this sample. It’s a #4 weight medium yarn, in 100% cotton, and a size 5.00 mm H/8 crochet hook. The colors in this ombre yarn are teal, olive green, mint and a splash of white.

This is a one row repeat once the pattern is established, using the chain, half double crochet, and feather stitch.

Tips
- This stitch is a yarn eater and the fabric is extra thick when completed.
- If new to this stitch, a solid color may be easier to work with than a variegated color.
- Try not to twist the yarn when pulling up loops on the feather stitch.
- Keep the feather stitch even across the row by giving extra slack when working in the row below.
Skill Level
This is rated as an intermediate skill level. It can be a little awkward to get your tension even at first. Do not twist your yarn when making the feather stitches and pulling up the long stitches from the row below.
