Sandstone Neck Scarf – Free Crochet Pattern
The Sandstone Neck Scarf is a beautiful design with a lot of warmth to it. A two row repeat that is easy to memorize for the scarf, and a couple of rounds for the pretty scallop edging. This is really fun to make. Scroll down for the written instructions.

The Sandstone Neck Scarf is made using a variation of the double crochet stitch called the linked double crochet stitch along with a row of single crochet stitches, it’s a two row repeat.
For this sample, I used Caron Macchiato Cakes in the color Whisper. It’s listed as a #5 weight bulky yarn, but to me, it feels more like a #4 worsted weight, and a size 6.00 mm J/10 crochet hook. Make one in your favorite color or in a striped yarn for added color.
This yarn has a nice color transition in beautiful shades of cream, tan and light grey. This feels so warm and cozy around your neck and shoulders and looks great underneath a coat.

Instructions
Chain 27
Row 1: (WS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each st across. (26 sc).
Row 2: (RS) Ch 2, insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop, turn, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops on hook] 2X, *insert hook into horizontal bar of previous st just made, yo, pull up a loop, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops on hook] 2X*, repeat *-* across. (26 ldc).
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. (26 sc).
Rows 4-82: Repeat Rows 2-3. Continue to Assemble, do NOT end off yarn.
Assemble
Lay the fabric out flat with WS facing. Fold right edge down and then fold left edge over it. Match up the edges so it makes a point. Place stitch markers at both sides to hold it together. Continue to Edging. See photos below.
Edging
Note: Work through both pieces of fabric around the point, going through the stitches of both sides. See photos below.
Round 1: Ch 1, 1 sc in next 26 sts going through both pieces of fabric, sc evenly around in row ends, end with 1 sc in last 26 sts going through both pieces of fabric, end with sl st to beg sc, at the front point.
Note: If there isn’t enough chains to skip 2 sts between each set of 5-dc towards the end of Round 2, sk 1 instead. Another thing to do is as I’m getting close to the end of the round, I’ll count out how the last several sets will end up, then I skip chains as needed to end evenly.
Begin first scallop at center point in front.
Round 2: Ch 1, 5 dc in same st, *sk 2 sts, sl st in next, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st*, repeat *-* around, end with sl st to beg ch-1. (22 repeats or scallops).
Round 3: Ch 1, *[hdc in next st, ch 1] 5X, sl st in next st, ch 1*, repeat *-* around, end with ch 1, sl st to beg ch-1. End off yarn, weave in ends.
