The Fur yarn used in this scarf is by Red Heart and comes in several colors. I chose the color Mink as I love the rich brown color. I had envisioned this scarf with a totally different idea, name and theme for it. When my daughter put on the scarf, it was all out the window. She absolutely loves this scarf and has claimed it as hers, and named it the Bear Paw Scarf. You can tell when she likes something, she dances around and makes silly faces. Well, this was one of those moments, and you will love it too!
We recently celebrated my Father-in-laws birthday, and at the party my niece asked me to make her a faux fur stole. I told her that I was making this scarf, and even promised it to her for Christmas. What to do now that my daughter has claimed it too? I’ll just have to make another one. It doesn’t take too long as the fur is very thick and works up quickly. And you can imagine it is very, very soft!

Notes:
- Scarf is worked lengthwise.
- Worked in Rows, turn after each Row.
- Ch 2 counts as 1 sc + ch 1 at beginning of Rows.
- Stitch counts are in [ ] at the end of each Row.
I found that this scarf stretched as I wore it, keep that in mind when making your length or chains at the beginning. The pockets have holes in them from the chain spaces, they are for keeping your hands warm, not for storing items in as they may fall through.
- The fur is very thick, and you cannot see the stitches. Use your fingers to find the chains for Row 1, and the ch-1 spaces throughout. It doesn’t have to be exact stitch count, use your best guess to place your stitches. The fur is very forgiving and no one will know if you’re off a stitch here or there. You could also add strips of fur and weave it in if you find a big gap somewhere.
SCARF
Begin by leaving a 12 inch tail, Ch 48
Row 1: (See * above) 1 sc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 1 sc + ch 1), *ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch*, repeat *-* across, end with 1 sc in last ch. [24 sc, 23 ch 1 sps].
To add another skein, tie the ends of fur together securely. Leave approximately 2 inches of yarn for the tails to weave in later.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, *1 sc in ch-1 sp, ch 1*, repeat *-* across. [24 sc, 23 ch 1 sps].
Rows 3-5: Repeat Row 2. [24 sc, 23 ch 1 sps]
Working on one end of scarf:
Row 6: Turn (to work on end of scarf), ch 2, *1 sc in ch-1 sp, ch 1*, repeat *-* across. [4 sc, 3 ch 1 sps].
Rows 7-13: Repeat Row 2. [4 sc, 3 ch 1 sps]. End off fur yarn, leave a tail for seaming.
Other end of scarf:
Begin by attaching new fur yarn to one corner.
Repeat Rows 6-13.
SEAMING POCKETS
Lay scarf out flat. Fold up one end of the scarf to form a square pocket, approximately 5 inches. Using the tail and your fingers, whip stitch the sides together to secure the pockets. Cut additional pieces of fur to seam the other side. Repeat for the other end of the scarf. End off fur yarn, weave in ends, carefully trim excess fur if necessary.
End of Pattern.
