This Easy Knit Beanie with the 3D Crochet Flower is a fun pattern to combine the two crafts together. You can always leave off the flower if it’s not your style, but it sure is a hit around here, I hope you’ll give it a try. You will love making this.

I love knitting these basic hats in the round on circular knitting needles. I’ve made several of them and enjoy the rhythm of the stitches. Here is one in Lion Brand, Vanna’s Choice in the color Silver Heather.

This is my crochet 3D Flower Motif pattern. I’ve used it in several of my designs and it really is a nice addition to this hat.

Easy Knit Beanie
Skill Level: Easy
Gauge: 18 sts x 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette (see note below)
Size: 20 ” circumference
Supplies:
Yarn: Worsted Weight #4- approx. 200 yards.
Circular Needles: US 4 / 3.50mm 16 inch, or size to obtain gauge
Double Pointed Needles: US 4 / 3.5mm, these need to match the circular size
Button (optional)
Scissors
Stitch Markers
Tape Measure
Yarn needle
Samples shown in Lion Brand-Vanna’s Choice in Silver Heather; Loops and Threads- Impeccable in Soft Taupe; Red Heart With Love in Aran; Plymouth- Encore in Lavender.
Abbreviations:
K2tog – knit two stitches together (1 stitch decreased)
st(s) – stitch(es)
Notes:
- Worked in the Round.
- Move Stitch Marker up after each Round.
- I’m a loose knitter, you may need to go up a size or two in your needles to obtain gauge.
HAT INSTRUCTIONS
BRIM
Cast on 100 sts.
Round 1: *Knit 2 sts, Purl 2 sts*, repeat *-* around (100 sts). Place stitch marker, move up each Round throughout.
Repeat until ribbing measures 3 inches.
BODY
Round 1: Knit each stitch around. (100 sts).
Repeat until the entire fabric measures 6 inches (including the ribbing).
CROWN
Decreasing Rounds, change to double pointed needles when necessary.
Round 1: *Knit 8 sts, k2tog*, repeat *-* to end of Round (90 sts).
Round 2: Knit each stitch around. (90 sts).
Round 3: *Knit 7 sts, k2tog*, repeat *-* to end of Round (80 sts).
Round 4: Knit each stitch around. (80 sts).
Round 5: *Knit 6 sts, k2tog*, repeat *-* to end of Round (70 sts).
Round 6: Knit each stitch around. (70 sts).
Round 7: *Knit 5 sts, k2tog*, repeat *-* to end of Round (60 sts).
Round 8: Knit each stitch around. (60 sts).
Round 9: *Knit 4 sts, k2tog*, repeat *-* to end of Round (50 sts).
Round 10: Knit each stitch around. (50 sts).
Round 11: *Knit 3 sts, k2tog*, repeat *-* to end of Round (40 sts).
Round 12: Knit each stitch around. (40 sts).
Round 13: *Knit 2 sts, k2tog*, repeat *-* to end of Round (30 sts).
Round 14: Knit each stitch around. (30 sts).
Round 15: *Knit 1 st, k2tog*, repeat *-* to end of Round (20 sts).
Round 16: Knit each stitch around. (20 sts).
Round 17: *K2tog *, repeat *-* to end of Round (10 sts).
Round 18: Knit each stitch around. (10 sts).
End off yarn with a long tail, and weave through remaining stitches to close the top. Pull tight and weave in all ends.
Proceed to the flower pattern, but it is optional. The hat looks great either way.

ASSEMBLY
Place crochet flower along brim of hat. With tail from flower (or add another piece of yarn) stitch flower to the hat, securing each petal down to the hat. Sew the button in the middle of the flower, if desired. Weave in ends.
