Christmas Light Bulbs – Free Crochet Pattern
The Christmas Light Bulbs are a festive holiday crochet pattern to make. Enjoy making these while binge watching your favorite TV show, one episode after the next! You’ll want to make multiple lights in all your favorite colors.

Add a pretty ornament hanger to the top of each light to hang them by, or you can tie them on with the long chain.
Lights in progress here, they are so pretty. To weave in the ends, I tuck them inside the light. You could weave them into your stitches if you prefer.

Yarn: #4 Worsted Weight Color A: any color (15 yards), Color B: Green (2.5 yards)
Hook: US H/8 – 5.00 mm

Each color has 63 yards / 58 meters. 100% Acrylic, #4 medium weight yarn.
Abbreviations: US terms
3rd BLO – third back loop only
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
hdc2tog – half double crochet two together
sc – single crochet
ssc – standing single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
yo – yarn over
General Notes:
- Worked bottom up.
- Work in third Back Loop Only starting with Round 2.
- Do NOT join Rounds throughout, move stitch marker up each round.
- WS of stitches facing out.
Instructions:
Color A
Note: Beg ch-2 does not count as a stitch. Place all hdc sts in 1st ch made of the beg ch-2.
Round 1: Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 hdc).
Note: Rounds 2-12 work in 3rd BLO, move stitch marker up after each round, do not join rounds.
Round 2: 2 hdc in each st, in 3rd BLO throughout, around to stitch marker. (12 hdc).
Round 3: 1 hdc in each st around to stitch marker. (12 hdc).
Round 4: *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st*, repeat *-* around to stitch marker. (18 hdc).
Round 5: 1 hdc in each st around to stitch marker. (18 hdc).
Round 6: *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts*, repeat *-* around to stitch marker. (24 hdc).
Round 7: 1 hdc in each st around to stitch marker (24 hdc).
Round 8: *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts*, repeat *-* around to stitch marker.(30 hdc).
Round 9: 1 hdc in each st around to stitch marker. (30 hdc).
Note: Rounds 10-12 are Decrease Rounds.
Round 10: *2hdctog, 1 hdc in next 2 sts*, repeat *-* around to last 2 sts, 2hdctog. (22 hdc).
Round 11: *1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdctog*, repeat *-* around to last 2 sts, 1 hdc in next 2 sts. (17 hdc).
Round 12: *2hdctog, 1 hdc in next 2 sts*, repeat *-* around to last st, 1 sc in last st, sl st in next st. (12 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st). End off yarn.
Top Of Light
Color B (Green)
Note: Rounds 13-16 work through both loops of each st, WS facing.
Round 13: 1 ssc in corner st, 1 sc in each st around to stitch marker. (12 sc).
Round 14: 1 sc in each st around to stitch marker. (12 sc).
Rounds 15-16: Repeat Round 14. Do NOT end off yarn.
Stuff & Close Top of Light
Leave yarn attached, take out crochet hook, place stitch marker in live loop.
Add stuffing to light bulb, as much, or as little, as you like.
Take out stitch maker, put crochet hook back in live loop. Crochet in both edges to close the top, putting hook through back loop and front loop to begin the sl sts.
Row 17: Sl st through back loop and front loop in next 2 sts, ch 2, skip 2 sts, sl st in back loop and front loop in next 2 sts. End off yarn. Weave in all ends.
String
Color B (Green)
Chain 200, or desired length.
Assembly
Place the string through the ch-2 on each top of light to string them on. Place them approximately 3 inches apart. Tie one knot on top of each light bulb to keep them in place.
Weave in ends.
