What makes Tunisian crochet different from regular crochet is your hook is longer and carries the live loops, or stitches, on your hook like you do when knitting. One complete row is really a two row process which contains a Forward Pass and a Return Pass. This stitch is easy, and you’ll love making this.
Are you new to Tunisian crochet? Then you’ve come to the right place! I have a step-by-step beginner video to show you how to make the Tunisian Simple Stitch, click HERE for video.
Tips:
- The amount of beginning stitches may differ than shown in the video, refer to the individual pattern for the stitch count that you need to begin with.
- Use a larger hook than the yarn calls for to have some drape and prevent some curling on the edges.
- Practice your tension for a few rows before you begin your project.
- When you have picked up all the stitches on your forward pass, count them to make sure you haven’t skipped any.
- When picking up a stitch, do not split the yarn. Make sure the hook goes underneath the entire vertical bar easily. If it pulls, then check if the yarn has split. If so, take out the hook and try again.
- This stitch grows tall very fast.
