Tatting
Â
Tatting is a skill that results in a beautiful, delicate lace. You can use different tools to perform the skill such as the tatting shuttle, a tatting needle, or cro-tatting which combines a long needle with a crochet hook on the end. Generally you use a small thread to make it.Â
I’ve always wanted to learn how to Tat. I used to watch my Cousin Amy do tatting and it always fascinated me. The thread was so tiny and she used a shuttle.  When I wanted to find some tatting needles at my local craft stores, no one knew what I was talking about. It made me a little sad that this craft is not known today, especially at a craft store. When I finally found this set of tatting needles at Joann’s one day, I was thrilled.  Â
Here’s my first try at tatting. I made a flower with some beads. It took some time to get the tension right and keep consistent stitches. I like it a lot, it reminds me of crocheting.Â

I hope you give it a try.
Have a great day!

This is great… I tried it a long time ago too… It was fun.. you have inspired me to find my supplies!
That’s fantastic, I’m glad you’re inspired. Can’t wait to see what you make.
Tatting is an old art. I hope to try it soon. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Carolyn, you visited my store (Stitches In Time Yarn) during Yarn Crawl of LA, and I could teach you to tat in the traditional way, with a shuttle, if you’re interested.
I love what you did, makes me want to “get busy” myself!
Hi Lynne, you’re welcome. I hope you do, it is fun to make.
Hi Candace, I would love to learn how to use the shuttle, thank you. I’ll be in touch with you soon.
Hi Carolyn, this is really beautiful!!! Looove the golden beads on the black yarn, so elegant!
Have a fabulous day!

Hi Ana, thank you so much. Appreciate you stopping by, have a great day 🙂
I love this posting. My Mother used to tat and my sister tats. I have always wanted to learn and I even kept my Mother’s old tatting shuttle. But after my mom passed away I haven’t had the courage to try it on my own. But you have stirred my heart once again and I think I will give it a try Thank you.
Hi Oleta Kay, oh what a touching note, thank you for sharing. You’re so lucky to have your Mother’s shuttle and a sister who tats too! It must be in your genes, give it a try 🙂
