HDC Textured Beanie – Free Crochet Pattern
The HDC Textured Beanie is a nice combination of front loop and back loop stitches to make this pretty fabric. The lines and ridges adds to the beauty of the hat. Includes a video on the crochet stitch if you’re new to this technique.

The yarn is Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in the color Retro Stripes. This is a bright and fun colorway.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Measurements: 8.5” wide X 20” long
Supplies:
Yarn: (1 skein) Red Heart Super Saver Stripes – #4 medium, 100% acrylic, 141 g/5 oz, 215 meters /236 yards; Color: Retro Stripes, 150 yds
Hook: H/8 – 5.00 mm
Pom pom – optional
Stitch Marker – Quantity (1)
Yarn needle
Gauge: 9 rows X 14 hdc bl-fl sts = 4 inches
Abbreviations: In US Terminology
beg – beginning
blo – back loop only
bpdc – back post double crochet
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
flo – front loop only
fpdc – front post double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
RS – right side
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
X – times
Notes:
1. Pattern is written in US terminology.
2. First work in rows to make the body, later work in the round for the brim.
3. Stitch counts are in brackets ( ) at the end of rows.
4. Ch 1 does not count as a hdc for the body.
5. Begin and end row with blo hdc for the body.
6. Ch 3 does count as a double crochet stitch for the brim.
7. St multiple = odd # + 1 chain.
Instructions – in US terms
BODY
Ch 26 (leave a long 12 inch tail to seam)
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2 hdc), hdc in each ch across. (25 hdc).
Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as st), turn, hdc in blo in first st, *hdc in flo in next st, hdc in blo in next st*, repeat *-* across, end with hdc in top of beg ch-2. (12 blo, 12 flo, 1 hdc).
Row 3: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in blo in first st, *hdc in flo in next, hdc in blo in next*, repeat *-* across. (13 blo, 12 flo).
Rows 4-43: Repeat Row 3.
Do not end off, remove hook, place stitch marker in live loop.
SEAM
With RS together, match up stitches of Row 1 to Row 43, whip stitch edge from brim to crown using long tail and yarn needle. Continue with same tail and weave around the top stitches, or crown of hat, to form a circle. Pull tight to close top of hat, make a knot to secure and weave in end.
BRIM
Remove stitch marker, place live loop on hook.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around. (68 sc).
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), fpdc around next st, *1 bpdc around next 2 sts, 1 fpdc around next 2 sts*, repeat *-* around, end with sl st to top of beg ch-3. (34 fpdc, 34 bpdc, 1 sl st).
Rounds 3-4: Repeat Round 2.
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in each st around, end with sl st to beg sc. (68 sc).
End off yarn, weave in ends. Add pom-pom to top if desired.
