How To Crochet Alternating Berry Stitch

In this video tutorial I’ll show you how to crochet the pretty berry stitch that alternates every other row.
It’s an easy repeat that’s easy to memorize and check where you’re at if you set it down for a while.
This stitch can be made with any size yarn and corresponding crochet hook. If the yarn is lighter weight, such as fine or DK, it will result in a smaller fabric, and if it is a bulky weight, it will result in a larger fabric. This is a worsted weight #4 yarn with a size J 6.00 mm crochet hook.

Alternating Berry Stitch
Skill Level: Easy
Supplies:
Yarn: Red Heart With Love, color Bluebell
Crochet Hook: US J/10, 6.00 mm
Scissors
Yarn needle
Abbreviations: In US Terminology
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
yo – yarn over
Special Stitch: In US Terminology
Berry Stitch: insert hook in indicated stitch, yo, pull up loop, ch 3, yo, pull through both loops on hook.
Tips:
- Can be made in any size yarn weight for different projects.
- A four row repeat.
- Great fabric for accessories and cloths.
- Start row of berry stitches with either two single crochet or one single crochet depending on previous row of berry stitches.
- Creates a raised, textured fabric of bumps, bobbles, or berries.
Here’s a look at the back of the fabric. It is very beautiful on both sides.
Stitch multiple = odd # + 1 chain
Step 1: single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, one single crochet in the next chain. The pattern sequence is make a single crochet in the next chain, across.
Step 2: Chain one and turn your work, then single crochet in the next two stitches, berry stitch in the next, single crochet in the next stitch. The pattern sequence is berry stitch in the next stitch, single crochet in the next stitch, across. End with single crochet in last stitch.
Step 3: Chain one and turn your work, place one single crochet in each stitch across.
Step 4: Chain one and turn your work, then single crochet in the next stitch, berry stitch in the next. The pattern sequence is single crochet in the next stitch, berry stitch in the next stitch, across. End with single crochet in last stitch.
Step 5: Chain one and turn your work, place one single crochet in each stitch across.
Repeat Steps 2-5 until desired size.
