Beatrice Ryan Designs Crochet-A-Long Afghan
To start off the 2014 New Year I joined a CAL (Crochet-A-Long) in January with Beatrice Ryan Designs to make an afghan. Click here for pattern. Each week we didn’t know what stitches or designs we were going to add to it. Every Saturday morning the next portion of the pattern was released and needless to say, I haven’t slept in since January in anticipation of the next steps. I had purchased several colors of Vanna’s Choice Yarns to begin with, but as we kept adding rows, I kept adding colors from my stash yarns.
We started out with eight granny squares, stitched them together, and then continued with rows around them to form a rectangular shaped blanket. We completed about 4 to 5 rows each week and it had grown in size very quickly. This project took us 10 weeks to complete and the time really flew by! It has been a fun project for me and my whole family as we watched it grow each week. My husband even commented one day that he couldn’t believe that I made that! It’s been heartwarming for me to see my family snuggled up in it while watching a movie or hanging out. I might have to make another one since there are four of us and one afghan. Here are my photos of each week’s progress.
Thanks for reading!
Have a great day,
Carolyn

Hi Julie, thank you! It was a fun CAL to make and watch it develop each week.
How Gorgeous!! I would love to try it, but I’m color-challenged, I’m afraid. Any advice about choosing a set of appropriate colors?
Hi Meredith, I’ve found a great source for color ideas at http://www.design-seeds.com.
As far as advice, it depends on who it is for and what colors they like, or what room it is made for-do you want it to match the décor or stand out, etc.
I’m sure it will turn out pretty. You can try making a small swatch using the colors you’re thinking of just to get a visual to see if you like it. You can always take it out and change it too, don’t be afraid, have fun with it. 🙂
I can ‘t wait to start it an use up all those just enough pieces of yarn I have in my stash thank you for this great idea Helen in fl.
Hi Helen, You’re welcome! This blanket is perfect for using up scraps 🙂
