Learn how to make these four main stitches as Foundation stitches in this video: single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), and treble crochet (tr), in US terms.
You will make the chain at the base of the stitch, and then make the stitch on top of the chain. It’s very simple to do and you will get the hang of it in no time at all. You can make this in any stitch, but I demonstrate these four main stitches only.
Tips:
- The amount of beginning stitches may differ than shown in the video, refer to the individual pattern for the stitch count that you need to begin with.
- Practice your tension for a few rows before you begin your project.
- Work in a vertical direction instead of the normal horizontal direction.
- Make the chain and the stitch at the same time for each stitch.
- Pinch or hold the base chain with your fingers to help with stabilization and tension control.
- This gives more stretch to the foundation row.
