Handles:
See tutorial for handles HERE which includes picture tutorial and written instructions.
Using “L” hook.
1. Handle Placement: Using 4 stitch markers (or 4 small pieces of yarn), attach to the stitches on the bag where you want your handles. The handles are attached through Round 36 (row above the Ocean color).
2. Yarn: (using a tape measure) Measure (2) – 5 yards lengths of each color yarn – 10 strands in total. Gather all 10 strands together and pull through Round 36 from the inside of the bag to the front at stitch marker. Leave a long 15″ tail on the front of the bag for bead, fringe and knots.
3. Make a slip knot with the tail on front of bag.
4. Using your L hook: Insert hook through slip knot. Ch 32 or until handle measures 24 inches.
5. To finish, sl st to the same side of the bag at Round 36 where you placed your other stitch marker. Pull your working yarn through the stitch, to the front of the bag. (Note: do not twist handle before securing).
6. Make a knot to secure it on the front of the bag.
Note: If you’re not using beads, end at this point. Repeat for other handle. Cut fringe evenly, approximately 4 1/2″ long. To add a bead continue to #7. Using “J” hook.
7. Separate the yarn into two groups, 5 strands each. Insert hook into bead, and pull 5 strands through the bead. Set bead aside.
8. Using hook, from inside the bag, pull the other 5 strands to the inside of the bag at Round 36. Insert hook now from the front of the bag at Round 35, and pull the strands from the inside to the front of the bag.
9. Gather all (10) strands together, make a knot underneath bead to secure it. Repeat for each handle. Cut ends evenly for fringe around the bag, approximately 4 1/2″ long.
End of Pattern.
