Yarn Snowflake – Free Crochet Pattern

Red Heart With Love Metallic – Color (A) White (5 yards)
Red Heart WIth Love – Color (B): Hollyberry (2 yards)
Hook: 6.00 mm (US J/10)

Skein Weight: Solids: 7oz (198 g) Multis: 5oz (141g) Stripes: 5 oz (141 g)
Yardage: Solids: 370yds (338m) Multis: 230yds (211m) Stripes: 223 yards (204 m)
Fiber: 100% Acrylic
Care Instructions: Machine wash warm, gentle cycle. Tumble dry low; do not over dry. Do not bleach. or iron. For best results hand wash, lay flat to dry. Dry cleaning: solvent.
Gauge
3 1/2Â Inches across after Round 2.
I crochet on the loose side, so you may need to go up on the hook size if you crochet tightly.
Gauge is not critical to the design.
Abbreviations In US Terminology
ch – chain
picot
sc – single crochet
ssc – standing single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)
Special Stitches
Picot: Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook.
Standing single crochet – ssc: with slip knot on your hook, insert into stitch, yo, pull through stitch, yo, pull through both loops on hook. See Video HERE.
General Notes
- Worked in rounds.
- Written in US terminology.
- Stitch count at the end of each rounds indicated inside brackets ( ).
- Round 2- Red Ch 6, sc; White Ch 4, sl st. This makes the Red loops taller than the White loops on purpose.
Pattern Starts Here
Instructions
Color A (White) – Ch 4, sl st to beginning ch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 12 sc in ring, sl st to beginning sc. (12 sc).
Note: Using two Colors A and B for Round 2, untwist the yarn every couple of loops to keep it separated and easier to work with. The current Color on hook is worked in front of the dropped Color.
Round 2 Color A (White) Ch 4, drop loop off hook. Add Color B (Red) in next st with ssc, Ch 6, drop loop off hook, push Ch to back, *Color A (White): pick up loop onto hook, sl st in next st, ch 4, drop loop off hook. Color B (Red): pick up loop onto hook, sc in next st, ch 6, drop loop off hook*, Repeat *-* around to last 2 loops. With last Color A (White), sl st in last open st, sl st in first 2 chs of next white loop, 1 sc in same white ch sp, drop loop off hook, Color B (Red) pick up loop onto hook, sl st to base of beginning red ssc. (3 loops of each Color). End off Color B (Red).
Round 3: Pick up Color A (White) loop onto hook, *ch 4, [1 sc, picot, 1 sc] in red ch loop, ch 4, 1 sc in white ch loop*, repeat *-* around, end with ch 4, sl st to beginning sc. (6 picots, 12 ch 4 loops).
