Trending In Crochet
Â
Trending in Crochet are some of my favorite things like Summer Shawls, Free Form Crochet, Chevron Designs, and 1920’s Cloche Hats. Â I couldn’t pick just one, so here are two designs for each theme. Â I’m excited to bring you these trending in crochet designs and techniques.
Summer Shawls: Â Shawls are a great way to keep the chill off your neck and arms. Â They are also a great way to practice your stitch tension and to master a stitch at the same time. Â Most shawls repeat the pattern, so once you have it, you can make it on autopilot. Â
1) Â Painted Sunrise Summer Wrap by Oombawka Design. Â Â This gorgeous wrap is made with Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable in Sunrise. Â A simple repeat pattern and beautiful yarn turns into this lovely wrap for Spring and Summer.
2) Butterfly Fling Shawlette by Kim Guzman. I love the name and how you can fling it on, add a pin or brooch, and go!  This intermediate shawl is so pretty for chilly summer evenings out.
Chevron Designs: Â Chevron stitch designs just seem to keep getting more and more popular. Â Each year I see more items, in crochet, and other platforms as well, such as bedding, furniture, clothing, just about everything.
3) Chevron Lace Infinity Scarf by Moogly. Â Chevron and Lace together, wow, this is a gorgeous pattern. Â Made with a variegated yarn and, once established, a two row pattern repeat, nice! Â There is also a chart available for this design.
4) V-Stitch Crochet Ripple Afghan Pattern by Petals to Picots.  This V-stitch afghan has a modern twist to the tradition ripple design.  It is made with five colors of Bulky Weight yarn and a “K” hook, so it should make up fast!   Another beautiful design and chart available.
Free Form Crochet:  This type of crochet has a unique look to it.  Instead of following a pattern of rows, you’re designing as you go, whatever strikes you at that moment.  The result is a useful and original piece of art.  Here are some of the common stitches and techniques used in free form to put together a one of a kind item or design of your own.Â
5) Surface Embellishments by Renate Kirkpatrick. Here you will find a lot of tips and instructions on specific techniques used in free form.  I’ve always admired this type of design, very beautiful and inspiring. Â
6) Red Spiral Crocheted Cushion by The Jolly Stitch. This spiral is used a lot in Free Form crochet appliques.  There is a good tutorial to get you started and is a good beginner project into this type of crochet.  It’s a pretty pillow too!
1920’s Cloche Hats: Â Inspired flapper designs from the roaring 20’s, this style has been making a come back with the help of the show Downton Abby. Â I attended a 1920’s themed wedding last year which introduced me to the style of that Era. Â Click HERE to read more.
7) The Downton Style Cloche by The Hooked Haberdasher. This stylish cloche is very classy.  The pattern offers a photo tutorial, a solid or multi-colored version, and a link to the pretty flower.  Â
8) Charleston Cloche Hat by Hopeful Honey.  This chic flapper hat has definite flair with free form looking flowers and pearls on the side. Â
I hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of Trending in Crochet. Â Â
Have a great day!
