Throw Back Thursday #1
I used to make afghans and blankets all the time growing up. I always had one on my hook while looking for my next pattern to make. I would beg my Dad to take me to The Super Yarn Mart on the weekends to get more yarn, which was right near his house, lucky me!
When I was expecting my first baby, I decided to make her the flower hexagon baby blanket, called Angels’ Garden by Maggie Weldon. Towards the end of my pregnancy, the doctor took me off work early and I sat home by myself getting really scared and really bored. So, I made another blanket for her just to keep myself sane. I believe crocheting really helped me get through my pregnancy, it helped me to relax and kept my hands busy. The second one I made her was the Rosebud Filet blanket, also by Maggie Weldon.
My only regret is that I didn’t really use them when she was a baby. Now, I get out all my handmade items and we use them all the time. One time I brought a handmade quilt to a soccer tournament that one of my relatives made. I remember one of the Moms saying to her son, “OMG, don’t sit on that blanket, get your feet off that!” I told her it was OK, it was there for everyone to enjoy. It’s a cloth quilt and very large. We had almost the entire boys’ soccer team on it with food, cleats and all. When I got it home, threw it in the washer & dryer, it came out like new! I wouldn’t do that with all my hand-me-downs, but it’s a sturdy one, and oh so pretty! What’s the sense of having them packaged up and stored in the closet? You should get them out, use them and most of all enjoy them! :)
So here’s some photos of my baby blankets for my baby, oh so long ago, but seems like yesterday.
Thanks for reading!
Happy throw back Thursday!

what patterns did you use?
These are from Maggie Weldon’s book called Angel’s Garden. It’s a very old book, you can contact her or look through her store. http://www.ravelry.com/stores/maggie-weldon-designs
