Spotlight on Crochet – A Tip For Working With Dark-Colored Yarn
Do you ever have difficulty working with dark-colored yarns? Is it hard to see the stitches at night or on a cloudy day? I know I do, especially when I sit down after a long day and want to relax in the evening and crochet. I get out my project and then I need to turn on every light in the house to see what I’m doing. Then I discovered the LED Headlight. It’s a hands free light and you wear it on your head.
I have to say, I feel rather silly wearing it, and it makes me think of a surgeon working with delicate instruments! But who cares when you can continue to crochet and see what you’re doing without ruining your eyesight or risking a mistake in your work along the way.
The LED Headlight is flexible so you can direct the light where you need it most. The straps are adjustable around your head to make it comfortable to wear. It uses three AAA batteries which are easy to find in the stores, no special batteries required. It’s portable, lightweight and I’ve used it in the car while waiting for the kids’ soccer practice in the evening.
I found that for an overall spotlight on your crochet, this is the best solution without having to buy an expensive lamp. The LED Headlight was about $10 and I feel it was the best investment. I hope you find this helpful for you if you are having trouble working with darker colors or at night.

Have a great day!
I want one, where can I find it?
I purchased mine at Costco, but I didn’t see them online for Costco. If you Google “LED Headlight Headlamp” there will be several of them to choose from. I also was told that Harbor Freight Tools has them. 🙂
Geez! why didn’t I think of that! Frequently, I have to stand up next to the lamp when working with dark yarns…
and I bought one of four of my young grandsons – should’ve bought one for Mom Mom, too!
Thanks! great tip!
Glad you found this helpful! Where did you purchase yours?

Welcome Renee! Glad the head light will help you too 🙂
I purchased a ‘necklace’ type light called a ‘huglite’ that has two led bulbs on each end. It doesn’t distract others in the room and I can adjust the two ends to perfectly shine on my crocheting or on my pattern. Very helpful when working on dark projects or at night. 2 AAA batteries. The Huglite on eBay for less than $7.00 with free shipping! It’s very light weight and positionable for better visibility.
Here’s the link. I don’t have any investment in this product or company, just wanted to help others who may have had the same issues I did: Right now they are 5.99 with free shipping.
