Mini Granny Blanket & Hat Pattern
This baby set design was inspired by a young couple who are expecting their first child, and they are waiting to find out what they’re having until the baby is born. I’ve noticed more and more couples are waiting to find out these days, very exciting. It’s hard to make baby items if you don’t know what colors to use though. This is an easy pattern to make up ahead of time and have ready. Once the baby is born, you can quickly add the appropriate colors and have a beautiful gift at a moments notice. Here we go…
Mini Granny Blanket & Hat Pattern
Blanket Pattern:
Supplies:
Lion Brand Pound of Love – Color White
Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice – Color Raspberry
Hook size “H”
Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends
Gauge: Finished blanket measures 17” x 17 “
Abbreviations: ch – chain; sl st – slip stitch; sp – space; sc – single crochet; rsc – reverse single crochet; Shell = 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same space; Dc cluster – 3 dc in same space.
Notes: Terms are in US. This is a basic granny square pattern made in a solid color. I connect each Row with a sc and start my next Row by pulling up a long loop to the size of a finished dc stitch, this does not count as dc, but does count as ch 1, and sl st. If you prefer, you can sl st to top of ch 3, sl st in next 3 stitches over to ch 1 sp, and ch 3 to start your next Row.
Instructions: With white yarn-
Ch 4, sl st to first ch to form a ring.
Row 1: Draw up long loop; 1 Shell, ch 1, 1 shell. sc in first loop loosely. (2 Shells, 2 ch 1 sp).

I love to crochet. However, my basic pattern is the granny square.
I’ve tried other patterns, but always come back to the granny square.
I’m excited to say I inherited my mom’s yarn and all her crochet hooks.
The hooks range in size from the smallest to the biggest.
I’m visiting from Friendship Friday
Hi Michelle, so glad you stopped by and shared your story. Glad you like the pattern 🙂
I don’t know how to crochet but this looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop xo
This is so pretty! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Katherine, thank you so much! I enjoy reading the blog posts at your party. 🙂
Hi Tasha, thank you, enjoy!
I was just invited to a baby shower which will be in 3 weeks! This will be a perfect addition to my store-bought gift. I love the flower – it adds just the right touch!
Hi Cheryl, how exciting! Thank you for choosing my design to include with your baby gift! Have a great day!
I love this! I probably have a silly question though. I assume this is for an infant? But the blanket is so tiny, what do they use it for? I have seen these before and could see a bigger toddler carrying around the blanket for a security blanket. But I don’t know what they do with them for an infant. Obviously I’m not a grandmother yet, lol, but love making the hats for friends. Please enlighten this uninformed crochet lover. Blessings!
Hi Nannette, the size is for newborns but you can make several squares and join them together to make a bigger blanket, or you can keep adding more rows until you have the size you want. I made these for a charity donation who requested memory blankets for families. It would make a perfect size security blanket for toddlers too. Thanks for asking, hope this helps. Have a great day 🙂
I did make the set for a baby shower gift. I made the blanket a bit bigger (24″ x 24″). It was a hit! Thank you, Carolyn, for this lovely idea!
I’m so glad! You made my day Nannette 🙂
Thank you for sharing these beautiful patterns, Carolyn! Both are and great choice for our charity giving!
