July Flowers Of The Month
It’s time for Flowers of the Month. Every Monday I share a flower picture on my Facebook and Instagram page, and featured this month are several drought tolerant plants that produce beautiful flowers and some pretty peach Carnations. Here is the story behind these beauties, hope you enjoy…

My latest flower find is the Agapanthus plant. I never paid much attention to them until my daughter took a photography class, and she took several pictures of them up close. Once I saw her photos, I was hooked. Ever since then, I’ve appreciated their tiny flowers that make up a big cluster to form one big flower stem. Here is a white one just starting to bloom.
They also come in blue, or is it purple? Either way, it is gorgeous too. These are just starting to bloom in our area. They are very hardy and easy to grow, with long stems of gorgeous blooms during the summer.
This is a new one to me… the Rock Purslane plant also known as Calandrinia Spectabilis. It is a drought tolerant flowering succulent plant native to Chile. It grows in a mounded rosette shape of large blue green leaves. The plant has large, purple-lavender poppy like flowers held high above the foliage on delicate stems. The flower center is so beautiful with its red and yellow stamens.
I have seen these in some landscaping nearby and really admired them. When I found these at my local Lowe’s, I had to buy one! And I’m so glad I did, it is planted and doing very well already. They like full sun and not much water – perfect! Shown here with my Mitered Baby Granny Square Blanket in the background.
Another new flower for me is the Kangaroo Paw Flower which is originally from Western Australia. These are also drought tolerant plants and bloom from Spring through Summer months. I love these yellow and red flowers against the grey building and rocks.
More drought tolerant succulents that I found this month. I couldn’t pick just one so I put them both in this month. I don’t have a name for these, but just love the colors and shapes.
And last but not least, we have some pretty peach carnations. These were part of my Mother’s Day bouquet from my daughter. Another favorite color that I love.
That’s all for the July Flowers of the Month. Looking forward to sharing with you what flowers I find next time. Here is a pretty Spider Mum from last month. Click Here to read my June Flowers of the Month, and see all the featured flower finds that month!
