Crocheted Towel Edging – Free Crochet Pattern
I’ve always loved the towels and pillowcases that my Great Grandma Mom made so long ago! She crocheted with the finest threads and used different colors for her edgings. I’m lucky to have a few towels and pillowcases that I still use and I’m very appreciative of the work she put into each one. I am reminded of her when I see them.

So here is my simple crocheted towel edging. This can be used on hand towels, pillowcases, or whatever you can think of. It adds a little flair to whatever you put it on.
Crochet Towel Edging
Supplies:
Hand towel – 17 ½” wide
Thread: 1 ball Aunt Lidia’s Crochet Thread #3
Thread weight: 1 Super Fine
Hook: US 5 / 1.7 MM
Abbreviations:
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
Instructions:
I start with the back of the towel facing me for Row 1, at the bottom corner. You will be making a hole through the towel with your hook for each sc across. The pattern is worked in multiples of 6 to complete the scallop pattern across. Each pattern repeat is approximately 1 inch wide. I do not mark the towel, I just eye it as I go and try to keep the stitches evenly spaced. Gauge is not important on this project, so you may have more or less scallops on yours based on the width of your towel and how close or far apart you place your single crochets.
Row 1: sc 102, ch 1 turn. (102 sc)
Row 2: skip 2 sc, * 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, in next stitch, skip 2 sc, 1 hdc in next stitch, repeat * across, sl st to last sc. Fasten off and weave in ends. (17 scallops, 16 hdc).
Repeat Row 1 & 2 for the other edge of towel, if desired.
Hope you enjoy this pattern.
Have a great day,
