Beach Day Cover-Up Tunic – Free Crochet Pattern & Yarn Review
This Beach Day Cover-Up Tunic is one of my favorite patterns to make and to wear. This is designed by Pattern Paradise and is part of the #CelebrateMomCAL. It is made with simple stitches, color striping, and an easy pattern repeat with lots of interest and texture. This event is sponsored by Premier Yarns and is happening from March 31st through May 12th. There will be six free crochet patterns that were designed to go together. Hope you will join us.

The yarn used in this Cover-Up is by Premier Yarns and is called Cotton Fair. It is 52% Cotton / 48% Acrylic and is a Fine weight (#2) yarn. The yardage is generous at 317 yards each skein and I selected the 27-07 Bright Peach (2 skeins) and 27-01 White (3 skeins). I used a smaller hook than recommended, a size “F” hook, as I crochet on the loose side. (It is very important to check your gauge when making a garment). I’ve used this yarn before and I knew that I loved it already. It makes very nice stitch definition and is smooth to work with. It is on sale through May 12th with my discount code:

Now to the pattern review. When Maria was looking for pattern testers, I thought, hey maybe I can make this for my vacation. I did love the geometric design and the stripes, and I didn’t have a cover up yet. So it was just perfect timing and the perfect pattern for me to make. And, it is an easy pattern repeat, so once you get the stitches down, you can just crochet away. It was a stress saver for me as well, as I was having tests done, and I always get nervous waiting for the appointment and then waiting for the results. So this kept my hands and brain busy so I didn’t freak out with all the waiting. Everything is fine and this was the perfect distraction.
I love the construction of this cover-up, made length wise all at once. So you’re making the front and the back at the same time. The lace strips make a beautiful diamond shape and actually work up quickly. Then you have the rows of DC for that rhythmic section of repeating the same stitch. I really think it is a lovely design and when we went on vacation, I couldn’t wait to wear it to the pool. It was an overcast day, which is perfect for taking pictures. I’m usually behind the camera, but this time, my whole family got involved and took the pictures. We moved around from the Lazy River to the Main Pool where they had a beautiful rock feature with the waterfalls coming down. We all had so much fun with this photo shoot, it is a great memory for all of us.
I hope you do make one of these and find great joy in making it and wearing it. It is easy to customize it be increasing or decreasing the number of strips.
